Today In Robogate: Who Framed Roger Rabbit?

The latest conspiracy theory (so exciting only one Canadian news agency would report it) is that anonymous Conservatives have been trying to frame a young former staffer of being the infamous Pierre Poutine, which must surely be evidence of a systematic voter suppression campaign cover up. The left's new favourite investigative journalists Maher and MacGregor have found a "source" who speculates that the kid could not have acted alone, and had to have been helped by those now trying to frame him. It's all a bit contradictory, they propose either he's innocent of any wrong doing and guilty Tories are trying to frame him; or he's guilty and needed help from the Conservative Party (who then tried to turn him into a patsy, the next Lee Harvey Oswald). This suggests that Maher has no idea who Pierre Poutine is, he's just laying out alternate theories, keeping the story alive. The National Post was the only news organization that would publish this speculative garbage. If there were any truth to this Tory conspiracy story, the CBC would have been all over it like flies on shit.

Personally I think we should let investigators investigate and leave the poor kid alone. It is borderline irresponsible to engage in this kind of specific allegation before we know the facts. It would not be a surprise if Maher got a phone call from the young staffer's attorney today. The original article was altered in the middle of the day, or at least the headline was. The talking points remained largely the same. I feel sorry for the kid.

Are Maher and MacGregor writing all their work together now? Somebody in Blue Like You's comment section referred to them as Batman and Robin, which gave me a good laugh. That's awesome. I'm considering calling them Batman and Robin in all future blog posts on the subject.

  1. The dynamic dopes... What a couple of A-Holes... doing what they're doing to this kid. I mean it's bad enough that the dynamic dickweeds are smearing the Conservative Government with unsubstantiated accusations and wishful thinking, now that their story is being punched full of holes, they go after this kid with the ever convenient anonymous "sources". The credibility of Maher and MacGregor is pulp. What really bugs me is that these two asshats don't care at all about electoral fraud, they just care about "getting" the Conservatives... and it's obvious. They've become the story, and the story stinks like a giant turd!

  3. Quoting unconfirmed sources again? Are the sources as reliable as the guy in Florida who came up with the bogus Sona youtube confession?

Of course they imply by ommission that it is someone from Elections Canada or the RCMP to give themselves an aura of credibility; but really who are their sources? It seems to me that EC has been very tight lipped about the whole thing. It took them weeks to confirm the bogus complaints issued by Leadnow. And we know how the media was treating that bit of truth stretching; until of course they couldn't anymore.

So they present speculation by unknown individuals to give the lefty commentariat something to twitter about. "Couldn't possibly have been a one man operation IF there was widespread voter fraud". That's quite an assumption. Reads like a dime store detective novel. An invitation for those so inclined to create their own storyboard and convince themselves of the facts! Even if you have to make them up.

I'm more interested in learning how Vikileaks all came down. But that involves the media, doesn't it? Heaven forbid that we should know anything about those facts. People might stop believing what they are being told about robocalling.

    1. Has anyone ever dug into why exactly that criminal from Florida is so interested in this story? It seems really weird to me.

  4. If there is an anonymous 'Conservative source', that person is a real tool. Stand behind your accusations with a face and name or don't make them.
This young man has no where to go and no where to hide from this witch hunt and the supposed source can merrily get through their day.

With the many errors and omissions from these reports I suspect anyone that bothers to put down some cash to buy a hard copy should use it for puppy training.

    1. Yes, I do feel for Sona. The opposition are only too happy to label him as thrown under the bus (while they throw him under the bus) and the media are only too happy to be ambulance chasers. I hope he's at the cottage somewhere reading a good novel or watching Game of Thrones on dvd.

  5. Maybe people should find some dirt on Maher and McGregor,as there would have to be a lot of dirt out there,on sleezebags as them.

  6. Sad isn't it? Anything to avoid the inconvienent fact that both the Liberals and NDP have now been exposed for breaking Canada Election laws while the Conservatives have cooperated and sent all materials to Elections Canada from the beginning. If any "anonymous Conservative" wants to suggest Sona was really behind all this, they should be courageous enough to put their name to such an allegation.

  7. In one of the first articles on the robocalls that I kept in my files, the Conservative "source" may be Guelph defeated candidate Marty Burke. Referring reporters to Sona as Burke apparently did does NOT necessarily mean Burke was fingering him, as is now being implied:

    http://news.nationalpost.com/2012/02/22/racknine-inc-fraudulent-election-calls-traced/
"Firm with Tory links traced to election day ‘robocalls’ that tried to discourage voters
    Postmedia News  Feb 22, 2012 – 8:00 PM ET | Last Updated: Mar 7, 2012 5:54 PM ET
... Reached Wednesday, Burke referred calls about the matter to Michael Sona, who was his director of communications during the campaign and now works for Conservative MP Eve Adams. Sona did not respond to a series of questions about the matter.
Sona made headlines during the Guelph campaign when he was accused of trying to shut down a special ballot on the University of Guelph campus. Witnesses said he tried to grab a ballot box, arguing that the voting process was illegal.
[The Conservatives' lawyer] Hamilton later sent a letter to Elections Canada asking that the votes in that box be ruled invalid. Elections Canada allowed them to be counted. ..."

Then there was this from the Dynamic Duo on March 5:
    http://www2.canada.com/story.html?id=6254491
"Elections Canada probing spending records of Conservative campaign in robocall scandal
Glen McGregor and Stephen Maher, Postmedia News
    Published: Monday, March 05, 2012
... Sona, who was director of communications for the Burke campaign, made headlines during the campaign when he tried to shut down a special ballot being held for university students by trying to grab the ballot box.
He was first associated with this story when Sun TV reported that senior Conservatives believed he was a person of interest to the investigation. Sona soon resigned from his job working for Conservative MP Eve Adams.
After Defence Minister Peter MacKay suggested Sona was responsible for the misdirection in Guelph, Sona issued a statement denying it. ..."

Notice that in that story, two conservative "sources" are fingered: Sun News and Peter Mackay, who subsequently explained to Rosemary Barton what he actually said that was as usual misreported by the media as Mackay pointing to Sona as the guilty one. I'm looking for the P&P episode where Mackay was interviewed.

  8. I always thought Batman and Robin at least were fighting the bad guys.
The two wanna be journalists, aren't.
They can stretch their "story" from Vancouver Island to Newfoundland it still stinks, source that.
I was thinking they are more like "Itchy and Scratchy"
Now that fits a little better, out of control, deliriously malicious.
Of course the "Itchy and Scratchy show" always appeared on the "Crusty the Clown" show.
This whole thing has gotten so ridiculous.
The only scandal here is the Media Party and the Corrupt Liberals.

  9. "What really bugs me is that these two asshats don't care at all about electoral fraud, they just care about "getting" the Conservatives..."

This is actually the motivation behind all of this -- and I think it is damaging our social cohesiveness. People will come to distrust the system (unfairly so, I think, as fraud is not rampant), but the media over-hype of every last unproven allegation is very damaging to Canadians trust of one another.

    1. Indeed. I just saw an advert for Power and Politics where Evan Soloman says the "it's all about sustaining the NDP at their current level" with a big picture of Jack Layton waving his cane in the background. What does that tell you about CBC's political mandate? It can't be said any plainer than that. Will the next Vote Compass poll point everybody to the NDP?

  10. Looks like a continued witch hunt by "Laural and Hardy" to turn the focus away from Liberano Frank Valeriote's dirty illegal tricks.

These two are pure Harper haters . Look at Maher when Ezra called him. He can dish it out but can't take it when the tables were turned on him in thar phone call.

Check out previous posts by Maher...all negative against the Conservatives.

Wasn't McGregor in some kind of run in with Mike Duffy and now he has a Conservative axe to grind?

Yup...Laural and Hardy.Their story had it's 15 min's of fame. Now it's got cobwebbs hanging around the edges.
