For the last three years we've heard the opposition constantly complaining that the governing Tories were running a deficit. The Liberals in particular hammered this point at every opportunity, trying to paint the government as spending irresponsibly (even though it was the Liberals who demanded a multi billion stimulus package as a condition to supporting the 2009 budget in a minority parliament after a coup attempt). Fast forward to 2012 when the Tories have taken measures to reduce the deficit and cut spending, and suddenly they are accused of viciously attacking Canadians with allegedly draconian cuts. It's hard to please these guys. I suppose at the end of the day, that's what the opposition is here for, to complain.
The good news is that the CBC will have their federal funding cut by 10%. Maybe that's not enough, but it is a start and a move in the right direction. Of course as you can imagine, the CBC is none too happy about this budget. They are talking about it on Newsworld today under the headline "BUDGET FALLOUT". They'll either have to scale back their expenses, or charge a little more for advertising on their shitty programing. Can I recommend holding a telethon perhaps? It would be interesting to see how much money they could raise, if any. Most CBC employees are paid far far more than the average Canadian.
I like this budget. We could have used this last year, but the Tories campaigned on the minority budget that the opposition voted against to force the election. They were locked into last year's budget, this one is far better. We are still more than 3 years away from the next election, so we have a few more Tory majority budgets left.
Get used to it Liberals. Do the NDP have an opinion on the matter? Probably, but who cares?
what i don't understand why is there a CBC add on Fox News not like anyone watches CBC. I thought CBC was anti american so there putting adds on american news stations to promote them. and I don't understand why fox would even allow a farleft terrorist loving station to even be advertised on foxnews
ReplyDeleteMaybe, FOX should be reminded of what CBC is all about Roy and by that I ask 'why not give a detail description of CBC to FOX? That CBC are very Anti Conservatives, suppressors of news etc. and if they care for canadians to watch FOX is for them to rid themselves of CBC completely.
DeleteMulclair wants two budgets one for Quebec and one for canada.
ReplyDeleteBrison bragged to FLAHERTY during some committee meeting that ' it was the liberals that forced the cons into stimulus spending' therefore in other words the liberals should take the credit for the outcome to canada's economy.
Rae is a tired old complainer loser.I would have more of a chance to win the lotto than he would being PM,and I don't even buy lotto tickets.A lot of conservatives are angry that there were not more cut to the Civil Service(I don't know what's civil about them).I think the only reason they cut 10 percent from the CBC,over 3 years is because we complained about it.Now the CBC is safe for 3 more years. They should have cut more,at least 30 percent.Well it's only fair that what I was donating to the CPC in 1 year, now I'll donate the same amount, but over 3 years.I've already told my MP about that. Also they shouldn't have raised the eligibility for OAS to 67 from 65.They should have had a cut off for people making say $40,000 or more,as a lot of these people have a lot of investments.Again I want to say it was a slap in the face to me that they cut the CBC only 10 percent. We voted them in,and they should listen to us.The NDPPQ are wrong in their ideology, but at least the party listens to their voters.
ReplyDeleteAs a 32 year old, I fully support raising the retirement age. But it is being introduced slowly, so the people affected aren't even seniors yet. The opposition is trying to frame this as the Tories against seniors. That is not the case.
DeleteThe coalition would have tripled down on spending with wind farms, solyndra style solar energy boondoggles, forced national daycare labour camps, and various other scum sucking programs for toronto mouth breathers. One thing to keep in mind in terms of cuts is that this budget was being planned before the writ was dropped. The reviews went out to the departments before the election. I'm sure they juiced it up after the majority but this is still a budget in response to the coalition gutter snipes. Look for more bone crushing cuts to the libdipper cbc next time.
ReplyDeleteFrom a political viewpoint, "bone crushing" cuts arouse active and long lasting opposition. I would much rather see another $5 billion cut in the 2014 budget and another $5 billion cut from the 2015 budget, allied with ttax cuts to stimulate the economy.
ReplyDeleteThis should ensure the budget is in a small surplus for the election, and set the stage for the next "big job", paying off the national debt and unpaid liabilities, which currently total $1 trillion dollars. To d o that we will need either decades of small cuts, one round of massive cuts ($50 to 100 billion) or massive tax cuts to boost the economy into the 5% or mpre annual growth range. A series of constant cuts and small tax decreases will bring about the same result with minimal turmoil.
By easing into this in an incremental manner, Prime Minister Harper demonstrates a brilliant strategic mindset; people will move comfortably into the post progressive period and the bottom feeders who benefit from feeding off the taxpayer will not be able to arouse mass opposition to the cuts while still loosing their place at the trough.
This budget is WEAK!
ReplyDeleteThey don't even downsize the civil service to where it was Pre Conservative Government, they cut half of the # they hired and over three yrs.
The loss of the penny is a tax hike as well as inflationary, albeit small.
Charities can now play politics legally?! WTH?
All "cuts" are over 3 yrs which is to say it's a freeze at best.
They kept all their outrageous pension in it's present form(pure disgust and rage!)
The argument that revenues exceeded expectations so they need not cut as deep is as socialist a big government notion as anything Trudeau ever said, What about the DEBT!, never mind the deficit which should be illegal to run unless we are fighting a defensive war.
In what way is this party Conservative? Fiscally? Nope, Socially?, Nope, They refuse to even consider any of it.
Is there no Party in this country that actually represents the traditional definition of their chosen ideology as represented in their names, The NDP never did of course but that's the communist way.
30 yrs of voting and no matter who's in it's the same irresponsible growth of government and self indulgence.
Might as well vote NDP and get it over with quick, this slow death thing is getting old.
If you vote dipper be prepared to give up everything you have. Look down south for the results of that decision. That's what happened after Bush. Conservatives stayed home and have a downright communist in charge. Guns, ammo and gold are enjoying the largest boom in American history. I was ahead of that curve and I'm prepared and thanks to Harper I've been able to unearth my weapons from the backyard.
DeleteYou better not own a business or else the profit you make doesn't really belong to you according to the NDP your business hard earned profits now belongs to the little guy who do not feel like working. Redistribution of wealth.
DeleteThe liberals made serious cuts to provinces that are still suffering from the shocking blow.
The liberals took 56billions from the Employment Insurance (funds) which they didn't replace what they though they us repay it by raising the EI premiums.
The msm are VERY VERY CAREFUL to not mention any of this.
If the NDPQF decides to take power, businesses will leave and canadians who have money in bank might move it out to where the NDPQF will not get hold of it.
I would have like sharper cuts but what will have happen if thousands are laid off and the whole economy declines suddenly. So, I thought about and realize this is the best way to go slowly.
Myth: this budget cuts anything.
ReplyDeleteFact: "savings" of 5 billion are actually spent elsewhere. Spending only increases.
Whether or not Liberals keep complaining about deficits, I will. I'm capable of thinking beyond a partisan paradigm.
Then the people on my television have been lying to me. You bastards! I feel truly blessed by the unbiased contribution of someone able to think outside the partisan paradigm. You should win a Gemini award anonymous.
DeleteWhy thank you Icy but I just repeated what I read in this insightful column: http://opinion.financialpost.com/2012/03/30/flahertys-no-cut-budget/
DeleteI've been very busy with my real job lately, and most of the information I have received about the budget has been from watching CTV News Channel and CBC Newsworld.
DeleteAnd I haven't been reading the National Post all that much lately. They have been printing a lot of shit.
