Who Should Be The Republican Nominee in 2012?

Today's poll question; who do you think should win the Republican nomination to run against Obama in 2012? Of the current candidates running in the race, Herman Cain is leading in the polls with 18%, followed by Romney and Gingrich with 15% a piece, the absent minded Rick Perry has 8%, Ron Paul has 5%, Michele Bachman has 4%, Santorum and Huntsman round out the field with 2% and 1% respectively. Undecided and none of the above are also options in the poll.

I'm not sure that I like any of the candidates currently in the field, and if this is the final list of choices I'll probably end up endorsing Newt. He's really the only one on that stage I trust, but age could become an issue. Romney might be the best business man among the group, but I'm not sure America is ready for a Mormon President. I don't understand the Herman Cain phenomenon. He came out of nowhere and suddenly was the favourite before anyone really knew all that much about him. He's certainly the most entertaining of the bunch. The brain fart pretty much eliminates Perry as a contender. Ron Paul is older than John McCain, and McCain was too old 3 years ago.

  1. Ron Paul or Herman Cain, with Sarah Palin as VP candidate.

  2. Cain has to be on the rep's ticket to counter the Obama Campaign's charges of racism every time the Reps disagree with anything Obama says or does.

Cain/Gingrich? Maybe a good fit. Palin's out,Romney=RINO,Perry-unelectable outside Texas,Paul is considered insane by his own Party.

The U.S. needs an "outsider",not more of the same old,but insider Gingrich as VP brings the political experience Cain needs to manouever in the Washington circles.

I have this bad feeling that Obama's going to become a two-term President.

  3. I like Gary Johnson, but Mitt Romney is their best chance at winning.

Herman Cain is a fascinating man, could be vice president.

  4. At first I thought that the Republicans didn't really want a winnable candidate for this election, and that even though they wouldn't sabotage whoever gets the nod, they wouldn't throw all the support that they could behind that person's campaign. I have some friends south of the border that really believe, and I agreed with them, that there are those in the Republican hierarchy that don't want a Republican incumbent in the White House to keep Bobby Jindal from running in 2012.

But now I think that another four years of Barack Obama really scares some of them, and that they will, at some time in the very near future, put as much energy as they can into the candidate they feel has the best chance to win. And my gut tells me that it will be Mitt Romney.

And if they are smart, they will keep Sarah Palin as far away from the ticket as possible.

  5. If you're looking for a black candidate to discourage those calls of racism, how about Allen West the Florida congressman and former lieutenant-colonel in the U.S. armed forces. Or as a vice president.

Rick Santorum seems to be against sharia law and takes the Islamic threat seriously.

  6. Newt is a wonk, Romney is soft on intrusive government, Perry would be good but not as good as Cain. Cain, like Palin and Reagan, has the right motivation - to SERVE his nation. He can surround himself with wonks and negotiators but when an hazardous occasion requires a quick decision you want that man who has the answer in his very soul. And it doesn't hurt that he would be the first legitimate black POTUS, succeeding the first affirmative-action POTUS.
