I'm sure every Tory MP lies in bed every night wide awake, afraid that one day they might have to face David McGuinty in the House of Commons. By appointing him House Leader, Mike Ignatieff is sending the message "they want to play tough they should watch who they wrangle with" or so a Liberal official told Jane Taber. He replaces Ralph Goodale, one of the most aggressive and vocal partisans in Parliament. From what I have seen in the legislature David McGuinty is a laid back nice guy compared to Ralph. If I were a House Leader, I would much rather negotiate with the hapless McGuinty than the vitriolic Goodale. I'm not exactly sure what John Baird is supposed to be afraid about.
Also, I am mourning the loss of John McCallum as Finance critic. I thought it was really awesome to have the speech slurring drunk in one of the opposition’s most important roles. Whatever requires Johnny to speak in public the most often, the better for the Tories. I also wonder what took Iggy so long to replace Ujjal as Defense critic. Do you think Bob Rae is disappointed that he wasn't named deputy?
Iffy is not very bright. All David McGuinty is going to remind Canadians of is his brother Dalton who is bankrupting Ontario. Him up against Baird is comical. Baird is probably grinning like a cheshire cat over that pic for the front line.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I'm sure Baird is shaking in his boots... McGuinty reminds me of other Librano mouthpieces, like Kennedy and that other waste of space Mark Holland, their mouth's move and a really annoying sound comes out, signifying nothing.
ReplyDeleteYa, I agree with Honey Pot, bad timing for Jr Bro.
ReplyDeleteBesides, despite his demeanor being lauded as calmer, he has never impressed me as the sharpest tool in the shed and this party needs a clever (as in brainy) communicator. Jr. Bro strikes me as someone that is scattered and all over the place and lousy at messaging.
However, that does somehow work well with this 4th Liberal leader in 5 years.
Maybe these 2 are matching puzzle pieces.
Honey Pot,
ReplyDeleteAA may shoot me, but I believe MI is our double agent. Appoint DM reminds us Mr. Dad is dragging Ontario down faster than Bob Rae ever could.
With thirty missing Liberal MPs how important is their shadow cabinet in the big picture?
Trudeau gets to defend his Daddy's legacy Charter, 'an ode to the past' with his 'huge promotion to immigration critic'.
ReplyDeleteThe 2 files that are most in need of reform,
Healthcare and Immigration/Refugees,
and Iffy will fearmonger ANY change,
because he wouldn't want to upset his coalition partners.
Iffy says Liberals are the party of the Charter and the Health Act.......
we know that Iffy, which explains why neither are working.
Actually, this does signal a positive change, in a way that you might not be aware of. What we have are younger Liberals assuming the front bench roles. While they may still be idiots, visually speaking it hints at the "generational change" that the Waffle wants to present as part of the "reborn" Liberal Party.
ReplyDeletePutting McGuinty as House Leader actually hides him.
ReplyDeleteThat was one of the reactions to Baird being tucked away as House Leader instead of out front on the firing lines.
I bet those CPC reasearches are busy little bees,
ReplyDeletegoing thru all the 'nice' things Scott Brison had to say about the Liberal govt,
when he was Finance and Industry critic (2001)
The only Lib MP in Saskatchewan, Goodale, gets to hold down the best buddy seat for Iffy.
Poor Bob, bff with Iffy no more.
What would you say is the single dumbest shadow cabinet appointment today?
ReplyDeleteJohn Baird vs David McGuinty - I will put my money on Baird being the superior adversary. Thank goodness Ralph is gone - his sanctimonious, finger wagging was annoying. Let the games begin. Cheers.
ReplyDeleteJustin Trudeau as anything, was a dumb move. He is still profoundly contemplating if he is changing the world, or just politicking.
ReplyDeleteJust what the liberal party needed, another young commie freak with a god complex.
Appointing David McGuinty as house leader could be interpreted as capitulation on the AGW front.
ReplyDeleteAfter all, who could take McGuinty seriously as environment critic when he was so frequently renting gas-guzzling SUVs?
