John Baird's New Job

John Baird is the new House Leader for the Conservative Government and will now be in charge of coordinating with the opposition parties on legislation. Rosemary Barton mused about the possibility that this was done to "provoke an election" by antagonizing the opposition (she made a nice stabbing motion on TV when talking about it). As Rosie said "if there's anyone who could spark some kind of showdown, it's John Baird." The Prime Minister said today that the last thing Canada needs is a fall election, which prompted coalition partner Jack Layton to say "when Mr. Harper says he doesn't want an election, he's got a funny way of showing it".

Let's not forget that the Liberal House Leader is Ralph Goodale who is most certainly an abrasive partisan. It is hypocritical for Liberals to complain about an aggressive partisan House Leader when they have one themselves. Who in cabinet really wanted the job of having to work with Ralph Goodale and Libby Davies? Seriously. Ralph did say that unless John Baird is co-operative, the Liberals might be forced to vote no confidence. Ergo if the Liberals decide they want an election, they won't hold a major press conference in Sudbury to announce it, they will likely choose instead to have negotiations collapse prior to a confidence vote; make it seem like an accident that they can blame on Baird.

  1. I believe Baird is a shot across the bow for the political games from the opposition.

They were warned in Nov 2009, December 2009 to drop the stunts 24/7 and work with the minority to help.

It is time for Russel Peters dad

  2. If NOTHING else will provoke an election and it only takes Baird to do so, then what does that tell you about the Opposition's priorities and principles?

  3. Wow, see the CBC poll today, 12 for 82 against

How does the CBC get away with this day after day

They are as bad as the idiotic lefties that post their CPC hate rants.

Many only read the headlines and consider them as fact. Something should be done about it

    Privitize the CBC

  4. I watched the CBC report on the Canadian job losses in July and then the American job losses. All negative about Canada, but "down south" things are looking better with sound bite from Obama about private sector jobs increasing month by month.

Then I switched to CTV and, while they reported on the Canadian job losses, there was an economist who said it wasn't surprising given the strong performances in the last three months and that many of the job losses were contracts in education that lapse during the summer. They then reported that there was a lot of grumbling going on the States because of the continued bad news about employment, etc.

  5. I also caught that bit about most of the job losses were in education, when schools and universities and colleges are closed for the summer. When they all get back to work in the next month will they mention an increase in jobs.
When the libs have Holland and Goodale as attack dogs on a daily basis, this should be an interesting session come Sept 20.
I also like how the PM and others kept mentioning the coalition are preparing for an election.

  6. Yeah, I watched the deranged Rosemary's (baby) Barton with her panel of like minded lefties, Paul Wells, Don ( I'm not a Librano shill, I work at the NP) Martin, and the TO Stars Susan Delecourt. Cynical, smirking, manipulative pulp. Barton thinks that John Baird is so "scary" and presumably rather unreasonable, a judgement she shares with her mild mannered, even tempered comrades Frank Goodale, Mark Holland, Pat Martin, Paul Dewar, Wayne Easter, Dosanjh etc. I wonder if Barton's bizarrely unhinged laugh represents some kind of nervous disorder, or perhaps she just received her taxpayer funded pay-check.

  7. If it were not for the blogs, like this one, it would be all lefty sheit all the time in Canada's media. Lately even NP has gone with a leftist slant more often than not. I think John Baird is a good choice and will have no problem shouting as loud as any of the opposition's straw men and hopefully putting forward some solid arguments to defend the conservative agenda.

  8. I meant to write Ralph Goodale.... My apologies to Frank.

  9. The upcoming session should be fun. Just to see Ralph Goodale foaming at the mouth will do my heart good. Let the Libs vote non confidence but they need Jack and Gilles and if its good for the Libs it ain't good for them. So watch the shenanigans as the year comes to an end. However, there will be no election and Ignatieff will continue to be ignored by Canadians.

  10. I believe that 80+ % of the general public either are unswayed or never see the Lib media bias. Many vote family tradition and may vote depending on their current financial position. Tax increases automaticly affect the heir vote.

The census issue is a issue with the chattering class and is not even visible except on the cbc/globe/ctv . I say discard the popular vote numbers, the seat count shows a very good minority if not majority.
