Biggest Canadian Political Gaffe Of 2011?

Today's poll question; what was the biggest Canadian political gaffe of 2011? Obviously Ignatieff forcing the early election has to be at or near the top of that list, though Duceppe also forcing that election was a colossal blunder that decimated his party. The appointment of Nycole Turmel was an enormous mistake, as the NDP was so eager to find someone who could speak French that they overlooked her inability to speak English. Seriously, news channels need to start cutting to the voice-over translator when she's speaking in both languages, or at least have subtitles at the bottom like the show Swamp People. We had an F-bomb tirade by Pat Martin and an S-bomb tirade by Justin Trudeau. Also, Christy Clark and Allison Redford being selected Premier by their parties also deserves consideration, as they will both likely cost their parties the next election.

  1. To the liberals iggy forcing an election was a big gaffe, but a great one for PMSH.

  2. The B.C. Liberals falling for Christy Clark was our biggest disappointment/gaffe,followed closely by the NDP veering HARD LEFT,and electing Glen Clark's fixer Adrian Dix as Leader.

Now,we have a future of windmills and carbon taxes, no matter which way we turn.

  3. I'm torn over this question, because the extreme left have made so many mistakes it's difficult to pick which one was the worst. Iggo forcing an early election was an absolute disaster for the "Liberals" and their media whores... but BC and Alberta political party's inserting federal "liberal" activists, nanny Statists and marxists as their leaders was also colossally stupid and cynical. IMO the left have made some inexplicable, desperately stupid decisions this past year... lets hope it continues.

  4. The only joy in Alberta electing Redford is that she has just given Danielle Smith a big boost for the Wild Rose Party

  5. The NDPPQ didn't care if Turmel couldn't speak english,as english isn't important in Quebec. If she just spoke French, and didn't make a fool of herself trying to speak english she would have been better off.I can't understand why any self-respecting anglo would vote for her, hearing her hacking our english language.Gerald

  6. Duceppe going for an early election, yes, but more importantly giving that speech at the P.Q. convention saying that a good showing for the Bloc would be one of the winning conditions for going into referendum mode. We all said, oh no, not more of this stuff again. Too bad too many people then turned to the N.D.P. whose candidates showed disdain for the Quebec people by either not showing up for all candidates debates, hardly campaigning at all, and running in the first place if they couldn't speak French much.

  7. In terms of an actual verbal gaffe: When Jack Layton stated that if you don't show up for work you don't get a promotion, Ignatieff could only respond by rambling about not lecturing him.

That moment, IMO, changed a lot.
