Prime Minister in Haiti

It was nice to see that while Ignatieff is enjoying his Olympic vacation, the Prime Minister is in Haiti speaking with their President about building a new Haitian government compound which would allow them to provide basic services to their population. It is about priorities. I would like to know exactly when Iggy acquired these Olympic tickets (given the bloviating he's been doing about the importance of our MPs being in Ottawa right now), but somehow I suspect that information would not be available in an Access to Information request.

With all the media focus on the Olympics, hopefully this story about Stephen Harper rebuilding the Haitian government is not lost. I don't expect Kady O'Malley to applaud the PMO for doing the right thing while Iggy is trolling for cheap photo ops. I would just like the Canadian people to know that their government is not on vacation like Iggy, they are actually out there on the ground trying to rebuild a fragile nation after a terrible disaster.

  1. My friend on the HMCS Athabaskan says ships moral went up a bit, when they heard PM was visiting. Our troops have seen some stuff and have been working long hours under stressful situations.

I'm sure some reassurances and appreciations from Canadians and the PM will help.

Are you nuts or what? the media is in prorogation have been for decades. However, the media has no choice in this case
the only reason you might see a clip here or there of the PM in Haiti is because there Haitians living here otherwise you will see or hear nothing.

  3. Ignatieff was given a free all-access pass by the Government, as was the PM, the Minister responsible for the Olympics, the Minister of Sport and the GG.

The PM and the two ministers are donating amounts equivalent to the cost of their tickets when they attend any event, Ignatieff is simply accepting the free ride.

In all fairness, I don't think it would make sense for Ignatieff to be in Haiti.

Aside from that, good post. :)

  5. Ignatieff was given an all ewents pass for the Olympics. There were 5 from the government - his , Harper's, the GG, Ministers of Sport and one other I think.
Harper said that if he attended and event to watch it (not just as part of his role as a dignitary) he would pay personally for his ticket the highest price for that event. When Ignatieff was asked if he also would pay personally for events he attended to personally watch for he said no- he would just go in on his free pass because , get this, he did not want to "politicize" the events.
Make any sense to you? He'll take and use the freebies and won't pay a penny because somehow that "politicizes" the event. You think he would have at least sprung for an Olympic jacket or scarf at least.
